Fall Fun

Posted by meghanbreeze on October 27, 2009

It’s finally cooled off some in the past few weeks. Well, we have a few cooler days and then a few warm days, but I’ll take it. The past few weeks all of us have been sick, no fun at all. Torah came down with a fever and cough for a few days, then I proceeded to get the same thing times 5, then Jacob was next and it hit him even worse :( All in all, we were pretty much cooped up in the house for a good week and half between all of us. Not to mention Torah got extremely constipated, which led to 3 suppositories in 1 week, then we had to go the doctor, then call the ER that evening b/c she in so much pain. She was so constipated that she got a fisher, very painful, not much we could do. We now have to give her Milk of Magnesia every night and switch up her diet. Things finally took a turn for the better a few days ago, she finally was able to go #2, and I’m won’t go into much detail, but not sure how it even came out of her! That’s all I say. Things are going much more smoothly now, all of us are getting much more sleep and feeling a lot better.

This past weekend was gorgeous and we took full advantage of the great weather.

Today a very lazy, rainy Monday for Torah and myself. We stayed in our jammies all day, and I  am totally ok with that! We colored, watched a movie, read books and decorated one of her pumpkins. She LOVED decorating her pumpkin and was SO proud of the end result. As soon as Jacob walked in the door, she was saying, “daddy, daddy I painted my punkin today, look look!” It was adorable!

Getting started, she was so excited!

Lately, Torah has been really into reading. Whether we are reading to her or she is reading on her own. Since we’ve been working on potty training, she has been reading a few books ALL the time. One is a Halloween book and she pretty much has it memorized! She turns to each page and tells you exactly what is going on, it’s so cute! Lately, she has been sitting behind the recliner in the living room and read her book. You can’t see her, but you can hear her reading out loud :) She has also been playing a few apps on Jacob’s iphone. They have some toddler apps that teach them shapes and animals, etc. She loves the shape game, everyday she asks to play, “shapes on daddy’s phone.” She does so well with her shapes, we were looking through a book tonight and I asked her what each shape was and she got them all correct! Not to mention the apps keep her occupied if we are out to eat or needing her to sit still for awhile ;)

Reading

Love her new owl jammies, even if they are Xmas jammies. Oh and she loves her purple toe nail polish :)

Transition

Posted by meghanbreeze on October 19, 2009

This post is a long time coming, let me tell you. I had to wait to write it once I got a grip on my attitude and my patience kicked in a little more. This transition of moving to Texas has been extremely difficult for Torah, really just the bed time I should say. It has been quite awful, I do hate saying that but it has been extremely exhausting. Up until we moved she was a great sleeper, no problem at all. Once we moved, that all changed. We tried a ton of different things. We kept her on schedule, set up her room the same, etc. I’m pretty sure living with my family and Jacob and myself being in the same bedroom for 4 months or so didn’t help at all. After nights of Torah screaming when bed time rolled around, the occasional vomiting to prolong bed time, us laying beside her bed until she fell asleep, nothing worked. We finally gave in and put her mattress in our bedroom, this worked for a while. She then began wanting to stay awake or standing up and thinking she do whatever she wanted. That’s when we decided it was time for her to be a big girl and sleep in her OWN bedroom ALL night. I don’t know what happened or if we said something, but the other day she decided to just that. At bed time we walked with her in to her room, gave hugs and kisses and prayed and told her that one of us would be right outside the door until she fell asleep. She said, “ok” and fell asleep! Now she still got up a few times at night and has the past few nights, but all we have to do is put her back in bed and she’s asleep. I can handle that! We have been giving her continuous praise about sleeping all night in her room and she gets a popsicle whenever she sleeps all night. The girl can have as many sugar free popsicles as she wants if she keeps this up :) I’ m just hoping that we have broken the bad sleeping habit.

It has been a very difficult 3 months, her not sleeping led to neither Jacob or myself sleeping, which led to all of us on edge, which led to all of us driving each one crazy at times. Top her sleeping issues, with Jacob having a new job, new church, new city (which is huge), not really meeting a ton of people quite yet, new house, missing family and friends, I myself am physically and emotionally exhausted. I was not expecting to feel this way at all, I knew I would miss people, but we had made a big move once before, so I thought it would be a little easier. But for some reason, this move has been a lot more difficult. I can’t really say why, b/c I don’t know why. It has just been difficult and still is. I keep telling myself it has only been 3 months, things will change, and I know they will, I just have my days. I’ve missed family a ton this week, all 3 of us have been sick all week. It would have been so nice to call up family and ask for someone to come over and help with Torah, but that can’t happen when we live so far away. Just days like those when it gets difficult. I’m not writing this as a little pity party for myself. Just things that have been on my mind and needed to get them out, my way of dealing I guess. Thanks for listening. Things are getting better! Torah has slept in her own bedroom for 3 whole nights, this is HUGE for us. Hoping it keeps up :) We also have family and friends visiting in November and then in January Jacob and I will be going to the Dominican Republic with G.O Ministries. That trip will be a MUCH needed time for the both of us to get away, I may be counting the days until that trip :)

Side note: It has finally cooled down here in Texas, which makes me VERY happy. I don’t think  I can take one more 90 degree day! In honor of the cooler weather, we broke out the hoodies as soon as we could, actually anything fall related we took full advantage of :)

Door turned Table

Posted by meghanbreeze on October 8, 2009

Here is my DIY project from a few years ago. I’ve been reading a ton of blogs that have inspired me to get back to what I really love to do. I found Shanty 2 Chic somehow and am loving the blog! Great ideas and how to decorate and re create on a budget!!! HELLO, right up my alley :)

The scoop on the project: I went to an architectual salvage store and they had tons of old doors that were calling my name. They were beautiful doors and at the time we had no kitchen table, so I thought why not? Bought the door and began visualizing. Went to Lowes and got some fence posts and some stain and went to work! I will admit my husbands grandpa helped me a bit with reinforcing the table :) We had some glass cut to size for the top, which works out great! Now I can decorate for holidays with the table. I just use my handy dandy dent remover to lift the glass and stick all sorts of things in it. At christmas time I usually put all of our christmas cards under the glass, fall leaves work great during fall, sometimes I just put family pics in it! The chairs I picked up at World Market and actually match quite well, they have the same detail as the fence posts.

I have a few more DIY projects in the works, by that I mean in my head :) I’ll have updates when I get those started! If anyone lives in the Houston area and knows some great thrift stores or flea markets, I would greatly appreciate some suggestions! If you haven’t checked out Shanty 2 Chic, head on over!

Here is the table and chairs all together. Sorry for the dirty table, it's been one of those weeks :)

Lazy Sunday

Posted by meghanbreeze on October 4, 2009

The title doesn’t really say much about the post, just that today it’s raining and I absolutely love it. I am also very lazy, so I’m just posting some pics and a few captions! Hope you are having a wonderful, lazy Sunday too!

She LOVES to play with her dollhouse! She has recently been putting all of her dollhouse items in a line to make a train. She puts them in a line and then says, "Chugga Chugga (?) Choo Choo!" It's very cute :)

Another pic of her and the dollhouse, notice the crazy curl in front. Her bangs are starting to do a funky curl thing now, a little hard to manage for sure. That is why this girl will never have short bangs, we are just gonna let them grow!

This is Torah's first big scrape! She was walking with me on the sidewalk and next thing I knew she went down, pretty hard and landed right on both knees. There was a lot of blood, but she was a trooper! Also, the lovely shirt is from Pawpaw, which he bought at a car show, enough said.

Lessons with Pawpaw

Posted by meghanbreeze on October 4, 2009

Pawpaw is teaching Torah to keep her eyes open when catching a ball. Not so sure she ever really caught on, however Pawpaw did decide to purposely hit her on the head, thinking she would learn :) Didn’t so much work! Seeing then play catch together was awesome to watch, made me think of all the days dad and I played catch or basketball in the back yard. Just really neat to see him doing that with her now. (insert a few tears now)

Torah feeding the goats

Posted by meghanbreeze on October 4, 2009

One of the goats was a little hot tempered and you can see where mom slapped him on the nose for being a bad goat :) It was quite hilarious at the time!
